ImageAbout Skate Journeys Summer Camps: There are two kinds of camps we offer. One type is our Partner Camps where we work with local schools and Recreation departments and offer camps at their location via their camp programs. The Partner Camps are completely run by the Partner including registration and location. Our partner this year is Meridian School.

The second type of camps are our exclusive Skate Journeys Only camps. Skate Journeys Only camps are offered throughout the year. From Fall to Spring they are located at Skate King Roller Rink and summer camps are run at two outdoor locations with Skate King as our rain back up location. Both types of camps, Partner and SJ Only camps are open to ANYONE and registration. the only real difference is where you register: Through their website (Partners) or ours (Skate Journeys Only Camps).

Dates & Times:

Partner camps run from 9-Noon or 1-4pm and run five days, Mondays through Fridays. Registration is done through THEIR site only. Partner Camps are located in Seattle & Mercer Island. One terrific option with our Partner camps is that they also offer other types of camps which allow your child to enjoy a full day of camp. Registration closes in May/June so contact them quickly to determine availability. Both Partner Camps and Skate Journeys Only camps offers the same top level instruction, activities and skill building! Both camps are AWESOME!

Skate Journeys Only camps, run from 9-Noon, 1-4 or you can do full day 9-4pm. You can choose how many days you attend but priority is given to full time campers. Skate Journeys Only camps includes Holiday, Mid-Winter Break, Spring Break and two summer camp. Summer camps are all outdoors with back up rain locations. Skate Journeys Only fall - spring camps are held at Skate King Roller Rink Summer camps are held at two locations: Mary Moore on days one, two and five and Cross Roads Park for days three and four. We return to Mary Moore on the 5th Day. If it rains we use Skate King Roller Rink as our back up location.  There is room in both our camps.

Skill Levels: All our skate camps cater to the beginner thought the advanced. Our instructors are all advanced the therefore can teach to all skill levels.  Beginner students will be given separate instruction from skaters with higher skills.

Skate Journey Only camps are for all ages 5-65.

Equipment: Skates and gear are provided at $15 per week or $5 per day if taking a single day camp. Campers must bring their own helmets. Protective gear is provided at no charge however we do recommend you purchase your own gear so you have it when you are not skating with Skate Journeys.

Payment: We collect the money directly for our camps while our partner camps set fees and collect money for the camps we provide for them. See below for payment methods and costs.

Pre-registration is a must. Email us to register and we will send you the appropriate form. Pay via Pay Pal on our classes/purchase classes page or mail us a check. Your payment saves your place for the class. For Paypal choose the"Misc" cart located at the top of the selections. Indicate the dates of the camp either on the check or in the comments column of the paypal process. There are no refunds, which is the same policy for all the school camps we work with. This is firm.  Please understand we staff our camps well in advance based on the attendance several weeks out. Early drop off and late pick up may be arranged for an additional fee. Contact us for details.

ImageTypical SJ Camp day: Arrive around 8:30 and gear up and play. Classes start at 9am. Students learn skills and progress at their level. We issue Passports (it is a skate JOURNEY) listing the skills the campers will learn at their level. Throughout the week the students will update their passport. Most kids progress up two or three levels during the week. We do not offer any type of competition because each student will progress at their own level and their comfort zone--we supply the technique, fun and challenge and they get to learn while having fun. Numerous water and snack breaks for the kids and lunch from 12;15-1pm. During the course of one day we play games, learn how to skate outdoors, up and down curbs, hills, skills, skate backwards and a hiphop dance step or two.... Sometimes hockey, sometimes soccer and always a fun obstacle course. Did I mention learning to hula hoop on skates 2009 Summer Camp dates:

If you are a returning camper, your email indicating you want to register is sufficient. Payment in either check or paypal secures your place at the camp. For Paypal click on "classes" "purchase classes". Click on the misc basket and put in the amount for the camp. At the time of your email we will confirm the cost before payment.  If you choose to pay by check we will send you the mailing address. There are no refunds.

Weather: The weather can be tricky in terms of planning outdoor camps. If it rains and we have to cancel the camp you will be given a full refund. The weeklong camps all have alternative indoor venues near the intended location. Ensure you are in contact with the director so you can be sure to get to the right locations. The weekday camps wil move to the indoor location at Skate King. However, the instructors do not provide a bus so arrangements would need to be made to shuttle the campers.

Recommendations for a successful camp experience:

  • If you are attending for more than one day, consider buying your own protective gear. Sports Authority and Play it Again Sports carry the gear (elbow, knee and wrist).
  • A helmet fitting guide will be sent to all parents to insure the campers helmet fits properly. Helmet fitting can take up to ten minutes to fit properly and is best done prior to camp by the parent.
  • Any camper who brings a new camper will receive a $5 discount on the camp. This applies only to NEW campers. We call it our High-Five program.
  • If your camper is new to skating, we highly recommend that they attend one of our weekend classes. It is not necessary, but if available, a great way to give the camper a head start.
