2009 Freestyle Slalom Workshop ScholarshipThe Skate Journeys is offering one or two scholarships to attend Naomi Grigg’s freestyle slalom workshop. This non-renewable scholarship will be awarded to Skate Journeys students past or present with high skating achievement and commitment to inline skating. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and enable youths between the ages of 10 and 18 years to attend advanced workshops, build skills in inline skating, and further their skating goals. Scholarship recipients should have a strong desire to succeed, as well as meet all of the requirements outlined below. A complete application packet must be submitted in full for consideration. Information provided will be reviewed by the Skate Journeys board of directors and be kept confidential. No child or other relative of a board member, officer, employee or instructor shall qualify for a scholarship. Youth of any race, color, national and ethnic origin qualify. Skate Journeys does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or ethnicity in administration of this scholarship program. The scholarship award will be paid directly to the workshop provider. Scholarship Requirements To be eligible for the Skate Journeys scholarship, each applicant must meet the following requirements: - Be a current or former student of Skate Journeys, between the ages of 10 and 18;
- Be level 5, advanced-intermediate or above;
- Be enrolled in or have attended the slalom class a minimum of six months or have participated in freestyle slalom events such as workshops and competitions;
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a skating instructor;
- Show financial need (applicant or applicant’s parent or guardian must submit a statement addressing why they cannot pay the requested expense; the parent or guardian must be willing to submit their most recent tax return to confirm statements if requested by the board);
- Demonstrate commitment to inline skating.
